Chance Encounter

Start when the ball rolls/it’s smart to keep your mouth shut/ in the presence /of Kings Popes and Presidents . /The more arduous the encounter,/ the less is represented./ The more silence succumbed to/. No one’s there to lift you/ beyond servitude’s suggestions.. Rulers, dictators, speech makers;/ they all set the pace,/ all the livelong day. /I’m smart enough to wait /until the time when I get around to it. I represent my own effect, possessions in calamity,or in calamity’s wake. In long lines of illnesses, filled with dread. World weary,/ the hands stay in pantomimes/ deals hammered out in back rooms,/become law the next day.
